Just a quick note to thank you all for your efforts in hosting and supporting the 2010 Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards last weekend.

It's always a bit of a shock to come to terms with winning such a prestigious award. The value of the award cannot be underestimated.

In 2004, I was privileged to represent the education software company, Eduss as they received the annual IT award. In the weeks following receipt of the award, we developed a list of staff and allowed each to take the award home for a night or for the weekend. The impact on staff was quite surprising. It created a new buzz, an increased level of pride and it proved to have a substantial and long lasting effect.

This week, I will attempt to induct the beautiful 2010 trophy through the same process with Eco-kinetics. I am positive it will have the same effect and it will be rewarding to watch the process unfold once again. Mike Curtis, Chief Technical Officer took the trophy home with great pride to start the process.

I don't need to tell any of you how and why these awards are so important to our community. Please keep up the great work and thank you once again for your mighty effort.

“To be recognized as a winner is very important to any young business as business is nothing else than a hard competition.

For our teams in the stores and especially for our franchisees the win was very important as a part of identification with our concept. Everybody was very proud.

It was our first win in three years after founding the Baker’s Club and gave us a good feeling of being part of the great Gold Coast business family. The process was very, very serious and professional, mixed up in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The Gala party was great, the mayors speech very good (because it was very short), the food really fantastic.

We have put the GCBEA logo on our website and on posters during the Franchise Expos. It is a good marketing tool. Others should be involved because that makes the competition bigger and more important. And in business bigger is better and gives the Gold Coast a better Brand Awareness all over Australia.

"I think it’s a basic human element, the enjoyment of being recognized by your peers for what you do or have done. To strive for innovation is part of our daily routine here at Formblock and to achieve it is rare indeed. We back up our innovation with patents and design rights etc which of course nobody ever sees. Our local government business awards announced to the public that our business is thriving and is a leader in its field!

Our staff was thrilled with the win and crow about it often. It was only last week when our CEO announced to a client in China that Formblock won the Innovation Award from our Local Government. He said he mentioned it to show that others considered our business unique and our products innovative.

We have added the Award logo to our letterhead and website. Our staff want to win another one this year and we have chosen our new product to enter already.

The Award night dinner brought all sorts of business contacts together for one common goal. The enthusiasm was evident at each table as they all hoped for a win and the excitement of actually winning was great for our team and great for the Gold Coast.

As you know we work almost exclusively overseas as our business is export driven. This year for the first time we sent Gold Coast calendars to our clients in China and the UAE etc. Next year we may well do our own which will include projects completed etc plus a picture or two from the Awards night!
