Grayclay injects itself into awards contention

Southport-headquartered and nationally accredited cosmetic medical training organisation, Grayclay, has stitched up a major business award.

The company, which now has campuses on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Melbourne, has taken out the Health and Wellbeing Category at the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards for July.

The company was initially set up as a part-time business in 2005 but it was launched as a full-time operation in 2010 when Grayclay founder Jacqueline Clayton took a $60,000 loan and hired a room at Central Queensland University in Southport.

Since then the business has grown quickly and it now has 60 full-time students on the Gold Coast, another 40 full-time students in Brisbane and it is providing practical training for more than 70 students a year at its Melbourne facility.

Ms Clayton said Grayclay is the only organisation on the east coast of Australia to hold the licence for a nationally accredited curriculum in the field of cosmetic medical aesthetics.

She said Grayclay students were provided with a combination of academic learning and practical training about a range of modern cosmetic medical techniques such as the application of muscle relaxants and facial fillers and the use of medical lasers for skin treatments.

“Our courses are designed to fill the growing gap for qualified professionals in the growing market that sits between beauticians and cosmetic surgeons,” Ms Clayton said.
Ms Clayton said the growth in the business over the past four years had been incredible and she was now in the process of doubling the size of the Gold Coast campus and was hoping to target international students in the near future.

She said that Grayclay was also helping people who suffered from a number of medical problems.

“We provide free hair removal treatments for women suffering from Hirsutism as a result of Polycystic ovary syndrome and we also provide teenagers with severe cases of ACNE with our specially developed compound Clear and Smooth free of charge post consultation,’’ Ms Clayton said.

It the first time that Grayclay has won one of the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards, which are recognised as the Gold Coast’s leading business awards.

Another company being honoured by the business awards was Skyline Landscape Services. The landscaping and maintenance company, which was set up in 1991 by Colin and Chris Richardson, now employs more than 300 people.
Skyline, which services residential communities, commercial properties and government buildings, was named as the winner of the Mayor’s Innovation GC Award at the ceremony held at the Southport Golf Club this week.
