Marina Builder Proves "Superior"

International marina and marine products maker Superior has been named the Gold Coast’s Business of the Year for the second time.

Superior, which was previously known as Superior Jetties, was given the major honour at tonight’s Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards gala function at Jupiter’s Hotel and Casino.

More than 650 people and representatives of more than 60 finalists were on hand to watch Superior win the overall title for the second time in four years.

Superior, which started its life manufacturing and installing pontoons for Gold Coast home owners, now designs and manufactures marine berthing systems and accessories ranging from a single cleat to multi-million dollar international super yacht marinas.

Headed up by husband and wife team John and Jackie Hogan, the company now exports its marina products to more than 10 different countries and has dealers operating in nine countries including Australia.

The company’s clients now range from boat owners through to multinational companies and governments.

The Arundel-headquartered company also claimed the annual honours in the manufacturing and construction category.

Last year’s overall winner, the fast-growing garden and vegetation maintenance company Technigro, also enjoyed time in the winner’s spotlight again, claiming the honours in the Family Business category.

Luxury cat boarding facility and veterinary clinic The Vet Lounge was on the debutantes on the awards list.

The business, which has modern facilities, piped music, leather lounges and themed cat accommodation, won the Emerging Business award.

In other categories the KT Cable Accessories roped in the Retail, Wholesale & Distribution Award, Ray White Surfers Paradise won the Trades, Professions & Services Award, Pindara Private Hospital stitched up the first annual Health & Wellbeing Award, OntheNet was on the ball in the Knowledge Management & IT section, and Wyndham Vacation Resorts booked out the Tourism, Hospitality & Events trophy.

Aqualuma LED Lighting was the shining light in the Mayor’s Innovation GC category,  Nuflow Technologies cleaned up in Environment and Sustainability, and short term money lender, Nimble won the Bob Scott Encouragement Award
