The 2008 Awards
are officially open for business!
Nomination and entries are now open for the 2008 Gold Coast
Business Excellence Awards following a high profile launch in the Penthouse
suite of Conrad Jupiter’s. Many of the city’s leading business people attended,
including 2007 Business of the Year winner, Kenton Campbell.
Campbell, Founder of Zarraffas Coffee, says winning the 2007
award has boosted moral among his staff and has made him feel that his hard
work has paid off.
“It means that the Gold Coast believes in us as a company.
I’d encourage anyone to apply.”
Every month from May to October the awards acknowledge
winners in each of the 9 categories.
All of the monthly winners become finalists for the Major Awards, which
are presented at a Black Tie Gala at Conrad Jupiter’s in November.
The award categories are:
Family Business, Manufacturing and Construction, Mayor’s Innovation GC,
Retail, Wholesale and Distribution, Tourism, Hospitality and Recreation,
Trades, Professions and Services, Information Technology and Multimedia,
Emerging Business and now, Environmental Management.
This year, the Awards committee are very excited to announce
the new monthly category to reward and promote environmental
responsibility.
The Environmental Management Award, sponsored by Gold Coast
City Council’s 2020 Vision on Waste Strategic Plan, is open to business across
all sectors who have implemented good environmental practices, not just those
in the environmental industry.
Committee President, Ian Cousins, says “the category will
recognise companies who are actively moving away from over-reliance on landfill
& recognise potential reuse for their business waste, as well as reducing
carbon emissions & water waste.”
“Gold Coast City has been one of the fastest growing regions
in Australia for more than four decades. New and established businesses are
thriving in the robust, economic environment of Australia’s sixth largest city
and fastest growing regional centre, and with this growth come the
responsibility to our future generations and the need to focus our efforts
towards creating a sustainable future for our environment is becoming more
apparent.”
