Mayor's Innovation GC Award:

Family Fresh

Family Fresh produces 18 lines of fresh ready-to-eat snack products with no preservatives or artificial ingredients. Directors Kevin and Jennifer Flanagan purchased Family Fresh in 1995 as a small shop in Palm Beach. They now have production facilities at Carrara where 35 staff are employed. In the past three years the company has secured supply contracts with Coles and Woolworths and has increased production dramatically.  Having supplied Australia families for over 30 years, Family Fresh uses innovative production methods to retain the fresh natural flavours and nutrient quality of raw fruit.


Environment and Sustainability Award:

Border Security

Border Security, which was first set up in 1976 with a handful of staff, has grown to be one of the leading security companies in Australia. Based in West Burleigh, Border Security has implemented a number of measures to conserve energy and to protect the environment. This includes Environmental Awareness training program for all employees; the installation of energy efficient lighting systems and recycling consumables. The company has replaced its fleet with VW manufactured vehicles for cash and transit operations. Each vehicle is fitted with a GPRS tracking equipment that allows them to monitor employee driving habits and this has led to 20 per cent reduction in fuel and maintenance costs.


Family Business Award:

Lucy Cole Prestige Properties

Lucy Cole Prestige Properties is the largest and most successful private real estate practice on the Gold Coast. It is also one of the largest independent residential agencies in Queensland.  Lucy Cole started the business as a small, one person office on the Isle of Capri on New Year's Day, 2000, when most Gold Coasters were nursing the hangovers of the millennium. That first day highlights the company's commitment to its clients and the ambition of its founder to succeed.


Health and Wellbeing Award:

Paradise Ultrasound Specialists

Paradise Ultrasound specialists is a family-owned company provided specialised medical imaging services to referring doctors. They give their patients a comprehensive, caring and personalised service. For the past four years, health care professionals have been impressed by Paradise Ultrasound Specialists' detailed medical imaging and exceptional patient care. The company provides services covering the Gold Coast, Tweed and Logan communities.



Trades, Professions and Services Award:

Burchills Engineering Solutions

Burchills Engineering Solutions is an iconic company that literally has helped shape the Gold Coast since it was first established in 1974. In its 40 year history, the company has changed its name and its ownership structure several times but has consistently held its reputation for being a leader in its field.  This is reflected in its portfolio of projects that the company has been involved with, such as Hope Island Resort, Ephraim Island, Sanctuary Cove, Marriot Surfers Paradise and Q1.


Retail, Wholesale and Distribution Award:

KT Cable Accessories

KT Cable Accessories is a leading designer, importer and wholesale distributor of automotive, electrical and industrial wiring accessories. Starting in 1994 from a small factory in Tweed Heads and a dedicated team servicing the Gold Coast region, KT Cable Accessories has now become the trusted supplier to thousands of customers across Australia, New Zealand and further afield.


Manufacturing and Construction Award:

Nucrush Group

The Nucrush Group's two divisions, Nucon Concrete and Nucrush Quarries, have been servicing the Gold Coast's constructions needs for over 50 years. The Nucrush Group remains 100% Gold Coast owned by the Neumann Family, with its head office based in Upper Coomera and operations sited across the entire coastal area. The Group is dedicated to providing its customers with the best possible product and service; assisted via its 'Preferred Partner' programme and guided by their motto 'Together We Grow'®. e-CBD provides web design, internet marketing, social media monitoring, search engine optimisation and graphic design services. Operating as a full service digital agency, e-CBD has been helping small to medium sized local businesses, national companies, and even federal government departments for over 18 years. Through these services, they have been helping their clients get above the noise in an increasingly digital marketplace.


Tourism, Hospitality and Events Award:

Cav's Steakhouse and Butchery

Established in 1984 Cav's Steakhouse is a Gold Coast icon. Now in its 31st year, Cav's Steakhouse has served over two million Queensland steaks to locals and tourists. Cav's Steakhouse is owned and operated by Richard Cavill, great grandson of James Freeman Cavill, an early pioneer of today's Gold Coast.  After working in his family's world famous Breakfast Creek Hotel in Brisbane, as well as at a range of Brisbane and Gold Coast restaurants, Richard developed a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry. Today, Cav's also offers a butchery for customers seeking premium, restaurant quality cuts.


Emerging Business Award:

Shoebox Bookkeeping

Shoebox Bookkeeping has quickly become an emerging national franchisor of bookkeeping services. Launched two years ago by Sandie Menzies and Yvette Coad, the franchise operation now has 13 franchisees, including their own original bookkeeping service. The chain provides fixed-priced book-keeping services for tradespeople and small business operators around the nation. Their business got its name because their friends and family literally kept their receipts in a shoebox. All new clients are presented with shoeboxes to keep their receipts and invoices in before they are handed over to the book-keepers who do the rest.
