Orbitz Elevators

Orbitz Elevators supply, install, maintain, repair and modernise elevators and escalators throughout Australia and overseas. The company was established by Jonathan Dwayre with a credit card, a van and a dream in November 2014. The business now employs 40 people and has branches in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea.

Family Business Award:
John Henderson Professionals Mermaid Beach

John Henderson Professionals Mermaid Beach is a family run business that has been operating for 44 years. Started by John Henderson, it is now run by two of his sons, Andrew and Luke Henderson, who are now considered among the Gold Coast's top 50 most influential people. The business employs 28 people, has annual property sales of more than $130 million and manages more than 500 properties. Six employees are members of the Henderson family.

Retail, Wholesale and Distribution Award:
ABC Brick Sales

ABC Brick Sales is among the largest supplier of building, construction, landscaping and gardening equipment in South East Queensland. Its range of products includes bricks and blocks, pavers, soils, cements and glues, builders' hardware, tools and steel reinforcements. The company was first set up 36 years ago and has grown to become a multi outlet chain with a booming online store.

Construction and Trades:
Amalgamated Property Maintenance

Amalgamated Property Maintenance re-paints and maintains buildings of up to 41 storeys on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. Originally established in 1978 by John Poletto as a painting business, the company has grown significantly in its 39 year history but still remains a family run operation.  As part of its high-rise painting operations, the business employs qualified painters trained in abseiling.

Manufacturing:
Queensland Hosiery Mill

Queensland Hosiery Mill is a fully family owned business that manufactures in custom knit socks.Started in 1968 by Ernest Smith in his parent's garage, the business is now in its 50th year of operation and employs 20 people. Queensland Hosiery Mills specialises in servicing private schools but also supplies clubs, businesses and government departments with uniforms.

Professions and Business Services Award:
MinterEllison Gold Coast

MinterEllison Gold Coast is a long-established Gold Coast law firm. Founded in Southport in 1983, the firm has acted in many of the City's most significant projects including the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, the establishment of the Gold Coast Suns and the light rail. The firm has acted for the Council of the City of Gold Coast for 31 years.

Health and Wellbeing Award:
Special Needs Solutions

Special Needs Solutions imports and distributes paediatric equipment to hospitals, special schools, rehabilitation centres, disability services and families with special needs children. The business was founded by Tiffany Heddes, whose son, Bailey, was born with Muscular Dystrophy. After years of struggling to provide equipment to support her son, in 2006 Tiffany created Special Needs Solutions to provide those with disabilities easier access to equipment.

IT, Knowledge Management and Digital Services Award:
Secure Internet Storage Solutions

Secure-ISS is an innovative provider of Hybrid Cloud and Cyber Security Solutions. Established in March 2006, the business now delivers IT solutions for more than 600 customers and more than 10,000 users throughout the Asia Pacific Region. The company's clients range from large organisations like Quest Serviced Apartments and Brisbane City Council through to clubs such as Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club.

Tourism, Hospitality and Events Award:
Currumbin RSL

Currumbin RSL Group is made up of numerous operations including the Currumbin RSL Club, Ignite Education, Dune Café, Veteran Support Centre, Club 8 Casino and a property portfolio. Recently, the Club has diversified its business model to include La Bocca Pizza, a hidden bar - The Spirit Den, Dune Café in Palm Beach) and meal deliveries via UrberEATS. The group now employs 171 people.

Mayor's Innovation GC Award:
iVvy

iVvy Marketplaceoffers a real-time booking platform for the events industry. The marketplace allows event organisers to compare, book and pay for function spaces, group accommodation and food & beverage in real-time.It allows event planners to find and book a venue in just six minutes, rather than weeks. Founded by Lauren Hall and James Greig in 2009, the company now employs 85 people in three countries.
