A Gold Coast property maintenance company has cleaned up at the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards for September.

Molendinar-based Amalgamated Property Maintenance was named the winner of the Family Business category at a ceremony held at Griffith University's Business School this week.

Director Darrick Poletto said his father John Poletto established the business on the Gold Coast in 1978 under the name of Amalgamated Painting Services.

Mr Poletto said in 1999 the company expanded into other trades as well as painting because they saw the opportunity to provide ongoing maintenance services to some of the major buildings that they had painted.

Three generations of the Poletto family are now involved with the business while APM has grown significantly to now employ 125 people across the Gold Coast, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast..

"We are still small enough to be versatile and flexible, and to be able to provide a personal service, but we are also large enough to handle numerous multi-million-dollar contracts,'' said Mr Poletto.

Mr Poletto said as part of the company's high-rise painting operations, the business employed qualified painters trained in abseiling. The company has been involved with painting some of the city's tallest buildings including Q1 and its spire.

Coincidentally, The SkyPoint Observation Deck, which runs the SkyPoint Climb up the Q1 spire, was named the winner of the Tourism, Hospitality and Events Award for September, Skypoint, which along with Dreamworld and Whitewater World is owned by Ardent Leisure, is now one of the city's most popular attractions and has become a must-see destination for locals and visitors alike.
