Medical Rescue named as Business of Year

Burleigh Heads-based aeromedical service Medical Rescue has been named the Gold Coast’s Business of the Year.

The company, which is headed up by Dr Glenn McKay and Dr Michael Smith, provides air ambulance, rescue helicopter, ground ambulance and deployed health services throughout Australia and overseas.

Employing more than 500 people, Medical Rescue has been a key partner for both the Commonwealth and Queensland Government and has been the leading private partner for Queensland Health during COVID 19.

Dr McKay said the Pandemic had not been easy for the business.  He said the international and national border closures had made it very challenging to run the business and put it at a distinct disadvantage to some of its competitors.

However, the company has experienced significant growth since the COVID pandemic began.

“We have won a number of large contracts with Government and the military that have opened the company to much larger opportunities,’’ said Dr McKay.

“Our major clients now include the Federal Government,  Queensland Health, NSW Health, NT Health, WA Health, SA Health, the Australian Defence Force and the US Department of Defence.”
