Museum motors away with business award

A museum and restaurant which opened its doors only two years ago has sped away with a prestigious business award.

The Upper Coomera-based Gold Coast Motor Museum has been named the winner of the Emerging and Micro Business category of the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards for October and it is now in the running for the annual title to be announced in next month.

Launched in October 2020 by brothers Carl and Grant Amor, Gold Coast Motor Museum has become a “must-visit” destination for car lovers.

Carl Amor said the museum had attracted more than 60,000 visitors in its first two years in business while the associated themed restaurant, Stanley’s Barn Restaurant, had served more than 75,000 meals.

The brothers, who also own Helensvale-headquartered international success story Aqualuma LED Lighting, purchased the site of the museum, a 12-acre property at 107 Kriedeman Road, Upper Coomera, in 2018.

Carl Amor said the idea of a motor museum was originally their father’s dream.

“The museum contains more than 80 vehicles from 1911 through to 2003,’’ he said.

“It is a wide-ranging global collection that is complemented with fashions and an eclectic mix of household artefacts including kitchenware, typewriters, televisions, and toys as well as tools from the automotive trade.

“The display has been designed to bring people face-to-face with our vehicles and memorabilia. The collection includes cars and motorcycles from Australia, USA, UK and Europe.

“We see it as a way of sparking memories for some visitors, generating curiosity and understanding in others, and in kindling our guests’ imaginations about who would have driven or built such a vehicle or used such an item.
