The Benowa-based Pindara Private Hospital has stitched up the honour of winning the first ever Health and Wellbeing award at the Gold Coast Business Excellence Awards.
Pindara, which was built in 1971 by Allan and Gwen Ramsay, has grown from a humble 50-bed facility to now having 260 patient beds, 14 operating theatres and a reputation for being one of the best hospitals in the country.
Awards Committee president Ian Cousins said Pindara was a fitting first winner in the Health and Wellbeing category, which was introduced for the 2013 awards,
“We have so many amazing medical and health related businesses in operation on the Gold Coast and we wanted to create a category which recognised their achievements,’’ said Mr Cousins.
“I think the Gold Coast’s world-class organisations like Pindara deserve to receive special recognition and we honoured to have the hospital as the first winner of this award.”
Mr Cousins said Pindara was a major employer for the Gold Coast and provided an important service for the city’s residents.
Another major Gold Coast employer, Wyndham Vacation Resorts claimed the win in the Tourism, Hospitality and Events section.
Mr Cousins said Wyndham employed thousands of people at its Gold Coast headquarters and at its network of 24 resorts across Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
“Wyndham services more than 46,000 vacation owners and is growing strongly.
“The company recently announced that is buying a new property now under construction in Melbourne’s CBD
“The new property is to be branded Wyndham on William and will become the company’s 25th resort.”
In the other categories, registered training organisation First Aid Accident and Emergency won the Emerging Business award, 5 Star Timbers nailed the Family Business category, Turners Engineering secured the Manufacturing and Construction honours, Your Inspiration at Home sealed the Mayor’s Innovation Award and The Village Markets walked away with the Retail, Wholesale and Distribution Trophy.
SSKB Body Corporate Management secured the Trades, Professions and Services section, Smartprint Fleet Management clean up the Environment and Sustainability award and internet service provider OntheNet connected with the judges to win the Knowledge Management and IT trophy.
Mr Cousins urged more businesses to get involved in the 2013 awards.
“The one thing that all our awards winners say to us is how much they have benefited from taking part in the event,’’ said Mr Cousins.
“It doesn’t matter whether they simply win a monthly award or a major annual honour, they all say they the recognition and satisfaction they receive is amazing.
“And that does not include the marketing opportunities that arise from winning one of these awards.”
The organisers are now calling for entries for the June awards with entries due on June 1.
All the monthly winners from 2013 will eligible for the annual awards which will be presented at the Black Tie Gala Presentation in November.
